Climate Resilience Through Gender Justice

A snapshot from the field: rural workers in Bangladesh

RESEARCH INITIATIVES BANGLADESH (RIB) | RLS in collaboration with RIB is addressing the intersection of climate and gender justice, recognising how environmental challenges disproportionately impact marginalised communities, particularly women. This initiative spans Rajshahi, Satkhira, Cox’s Bazar, and Dhaka, focusing on empowering women’s organisations, farmers, youth, and policymakers to develop inclusive, sustainable solutions.

Through participatory research, leadership training, and community engagement, the project strengthens women’s roles in climate decision-making while promoting systemic change. Educational materials, national dialogues, and advocacy efforts ensure that gender justice remains central to climate resilience strategies. By integrating transitional justice principles, the project also explores new frameworks for protecting vulnerable communities in the face of climate change.

By amplifying the voices of those most affected, this initiative fosters a more just and equitable response to the climate crisis in Bangladesh.

About Research Initiatives, Bangladesh

Research Initiatives, Bangladesh was established in 2002 with financial support from the Royal Dutch Government under its MMRP program. Its main objective is to support research aimed at identifying strategies and programs that could ensure sustainable, progressive alleviation of poverty in Bangladesh. RIB’s approach has been to involve participatory processes from the very design and conception of the research proposal, through the implementation phase to its final presentation, validation and follow up by the researchers and/or community being researched.
